Cradle Cap, Eco-disposable Nappies & Fit For A Princess
The subject of cradle cap has come up several times in recent weeks - possibly because of the weather and our skin tending to be drier in the winter. The Bee Balme wax is excellent for all dry skin conditions, even on the face, as it is entirely pure and organic, but I have found the best thing for cradle cap is calendula oil. You can buy it from good health food shops and/or Neals Yard on Northcote Road. Calendula has natural anti-fungal properties and is quite a rich oil. If you massage plenty into your baby's head, leave it for up to half an hour, then brush vigorously with a circular motion with a soft bristled brush the scurf should just lift off.

Most of you will have had more than enough of me sounding off about chemicals and their impact on our health and our babies - anyone who wants to join my vendetta against Johnsons is more than welcome! Some info I want to throw into the pot this month is about nappies. I was horrified when I did some research into Pampers and Huggies nappies a while ago that neither company were actively publishing anything on their websites about an effort to reduce the amount of chemicals and plastics in their products. It seems grossly irresponsible in my book. So, I set about looking into alternatives. Despite valiant attempts, I (or more particularly my baby's skin) did not get on with washable nappies. However, I have become a firm convert to Bambo Nappies - the Nordic Eco brand. They look like a Pampers or Huggies nappy and aren't as rigid as the Nature Baby ones that Sainsbury's makes - they contain no chemicals, just bamboo, which is highly absorbable. Cuddle Me Green on Northcote Road sells them, but I found the easiest way to get them was by mail order from www.naturalcollection.com.

Final top-tip for this month is exercise! As many of you will know I looked into the benefits of massage on post-natally depressed women when I did my practitioners training ... And it certainly seemed that massage is beneficial! However, perhaps even more beneficial is exercise and it is a tricky subject when you have small children. The answer I have found is in Fit For a Princess on Wandsworth Common - women-only exercise classes outside (no stinky gyms!) to which you can take your babies. It is lovely to do exercise in such a social environment and the teachers are fab. For more info go to www.fitforaprincess.co.uk.
